he World Health Organization reported in 2013 that 1 in 3 women globally will experience sexual and gender-based violence in her lifetime. Considered a global health crisis, the scourge and sin of SGBV has not been adequately addressed by the global health community nor by faith-based organizations. As people of faith striving to follow Jesus, we commit to nonviolence, compassion, and peace. We can no longer give consent—silent or otherwise—to the prevalence of SGBV of any form in our own communities and around the world.

On Feb. 27, We Will Speak Out U.S. member IMA World Health will host a pre-conference workshop at the Africa Christian Health Associations Platform, or ACHAP, 8th Biennial Conference in Lesotho. The workshop will highlight the roles FBOs and faith communities can play in acknowledging, responding to, and preventing SGBV, and it will include speakers from IMA World Health, the World Council of Churches, Tearfund South Africa and the Zimbabwe Association of Church-Related Hospitals.

Learn more about the workshop.
